Year-5 Students from the Tinkerbell Learning School pose for a group photo with Ambassador Christopher B. Montero at the main lobby of the Philippine Chancery in Bandar Seri Begawan.

In line with its public diplomacy activities, the Philippine Embassy in Brunei Darussalam received on 19 September a delegation of fifty-six (56) young students from Tinkerbell Learning School to learn more about the Philippines, its people, history and culture.

The children, age 11 to 12 years old, were warmly welcomed by Philippine Ambassador Christopher B. Montero, who encouraged the children to have fun in discovering wonderful and interesting facts about the Philippines.

A brief presentation by Cultural Officer Rose Paz Narvaja-Cornista enabled the children to learn about jeepneys, Taal Volcano, Manny Pacquiao and Dr. Jose Rizal, among other things. Embassy personnel likewise performed the basic steps of Tinikling, which was later participated in by some students.

Following the presentation, traditional snacks like puto, sapin-sapin, and Philippine-made ice-cream, Magnolia and FIC, were served much to the delight of the children. The Sentro Rizal Library of the Embassy kept the children engrossed and fascinated while they feasted on the snacks. Embassy personnel were on hand to answer their queries about the capiz, vinta, Lola Basyang, and Jose Rizal’s books, Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo.

Tinkerbell Learning School is a private education institution registered at the Brunei Ministry of Education. Its owner and Principal, Mrs. Iidil Rahmah Bte Abdullah, is a Filipina. END
