18 DECEMBER BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN – In line with its mandate for the protection of the welfare of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), the Philippine Embassy in Brunei Darussalam held a commemorative event for the International Migrant Workers Day and Month of Overseas Filipinos entitled a “2020 Pasasalamat at Pagbibigay Pugay sa mga OFWs “at the Philippine Chancery on 06 December 2020.
The event, which was undertaken through the initiative of the Embassy’s Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), was attended by one hundred twenty five (125) Overseas Filipino Workers, most of whom were participants of the the Embassy’s OFW Reintegration Programs during the year, namely: the Basic Computer Training Course, Baking Class and Gunting at Suklay Project.
In his message during the gathering, Ambassador Christopher B. Montero thanked the OFW attendees for their active participation in the Embassy’s skills enhancement programs, underscoring that PH Government’s Reintegration Program for OFWs is a valuable platform that would equip them with additional skills for their eventual return to the Philippines.
Labor Attaché Melissa C. Mendizabal likewise expressed gratitude to the OFWs and encouraged everyone to actively engage themselves in the Embassy’s future projects and programs. The participants were also reminded to monitor and follow the Philippine Embassy Facebook account so they will be kept abreast of important announcements.
Social Security System (SSS) Representative Joy-Ann Cabading and Pag-ibig Fund Representative Edna Pena-Hermoso provided updates on their programs and distributed door-gift of hygiene kits to all the attendees.
The event, which was also supported by Post’s Office of Defense and Armed Forces Attaché, aimed to bring the OFWs together for a day of relaxation out of their workplace and to bond with their fellow workers. Parlor games and raffle prizes added fun to the gathering. The event was capped with a simple fellowship lunch with the attendees.END
