BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN – Finance Secretary Carlos G. Dominguez III attended the 75th birthday anniversary of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, on July 15 in celebrations held at the Taman Haji Sir Omar Ali Saifuddin and Istana Nurul Iman (Royal Palace).
In a Royal audience at the Istana Nurul Iman, Secretary Dominguez handed a letter to His Majesty containing the birthday greetings and best wishes of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte. He conveyed the admiration and deep appreciation of the Philippine Government to His Majesty for the effective containment and efficient management of the COVID-19 pandemic, which made the celebrations possible. He also thanked His Majesty for the continuing warm hospitality and generous assistance of the Government of Brunei Darussalam to Filipino workers in the Sultanate, amidst the difficult challenges posed by the global pandemic.
Accompanied by Philippine Ambassador Christopher B. Montero, Secretary Dominguez attended the day-long festivities that included a Guard of Honor Parade at the Taman Square, and an Awarding and Investiture Ceremony at the Istana Nurul Iman.
The participation of a high-ranking Philippine official at His Majesty’s birth anniversary celebrations reaffirmed the close and dynamic ties between the Philippines and Brunei Darussalam. END
