The Philippines entered into its first private nursing school venture in Brunei Darussalam with the signing of an agreement between Far Eastern University (FEU), Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC) and Darussalam Assets on the establishment of the JPMC College of Health Sciences (JPMC-CHS). The signing ceremony was held at The Empire Hotel in Bandar Seri Begawan on 14 July 2022. JPMC College of Health Sciences (JPMC-CHS) will be the first health care learning institution of its kind in Brunei Darussalam.

The joint venture agreement was signed by FEU’s President Dr. Michael M. Alba and  Chief Finance Officer Mr. Juan Miguel R. Montinola, Minister of Health Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Haji Md Isham Bin Haji Jaafar, and Minister of Finance and Economy II Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Mohd. Amin Liew Bin Abdullah.  The Minister of Health is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of JPMC while Darussalam Assets is a private limited company under the supervision of the Ministry of Finance and Economy.

Witnessing the signing was Guest of Honor Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Retired) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Philippine Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Marian Jocelyn R. Tirol-Ignacio. 

The Philippine Ambassador was accompanied by Minister and Consul General Pete Raymond V. Delfin and Labor Attaché Joan Lourdes D. Lavilla.  The other members of the FEU delegation included Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Maria Teresa Trinidad P. Tinio and Chief Accountant Pamela Hernandez.

JPMC - CHS will offer basic nursing programs beginning October 2022 as part of its foundation program, with the intent of expanding into other fields of the health sciences. The campus will be located along Jalan Ong Sum Ping in Bandar Seri Begawan, and is expected to be fully operational by January 2023.

FEU is supporting the manpower requirements of the JPMC – CHS and will deploy instructors and lecturers each semester to Brunei based on the schedule of courses. END
