BANDAR SERI BAGAWAN, 04 MAY 2021. In solidarity with the Muslim faith in its observance of sadaqah (act of charity) for the holy month of Ramadhan, the Philippine Embassy distributed dry goods for Filipino Muslims residing and working in the Sultanate at the Philippine Chancery on 03 May 2021.
The food distribution campaign was carried out in partnership with the Brunei Food Awards (BFA), a non-government organization that aims to promote and invigorate the growth of Brunei’s food and beverage industry.
At least 110 Filipino Muslims, including their families, came to Embassy to pick up the food packs consisting of canned goods, rice, sugar and noodles. A total of 200 food packs were distributed in the afternoon, just before the Muslim Ummah would prepare for sungkai or iftar (breaking of fast).
Long-time Filipino Muslim residents expressed appreciation for the initiative, citing that it marked the first time that a sadaqah was organized by the Philippine Embassy for the Filipino Muslim community in the Sultanate.
“The BFA is most proud to have been part of a positive and impactful initiative for our Filipino Muslim brothers and sisters for the first time,” BFA CEO and President Haji Nasir bin Dato Paduka Latif said. “We hope that this will lead to the further bonding of the Filipino Muslim community and Bruneians, which we will commit to perform every year,” he added.” END
