BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 15 August 2022 - Philippine Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Marian Jocelyn R. Tirol-Ignacio met with International Women’s Club Brunei (IWCB) on 15 August 2022 at The Colony Tearoom on 15 August 2022 to discuss areas of cooperation between IWCB and the Philippine Embassy in Brunei.
IWCB President Ungku Datin Hj Fanzah Hj Osman hosted the cordial get-together with Vice-President Naz Rashid, IWCB Secretary Helen Yeo, and IWCB member Noora Ahmad.
Ambassador Tirol-Ignacio and IWCB discussed the broad contributions female Filipino workers have played in Brunei’s economy. IWCB shared its mission of bridging women of diverse backgrounds through their socio-cultural and charitable fundraising activities throughout the Sultanate.
Ambassador Tirol-Ignacio also expressed her appreciation for IWCB’s contribution to the socio-cultural fabric of Brunei and her interest in potential collaborations with Brunei on biodiversity, maritime issues, gender and the promotion of indigeous and creative industries.
The meeting concluded with the presentation of a copy of the ASEAN in 2017 coffee table book entitled “Partnering for Change, Engaging the World: The Philippines’ Chairmanship of ASEAN’s Golden Year” with the aim of sharing knowledge about the long history of cooperation between ASEAN member states and the Philippines.
The IWCB was established in the Sultanate in 1988 and is an affiliate of the International Women’s Club. It is an English-speaking association of women living in Brunei Darussalam who share common interests in social, cultural and charitable activities. It aims to promote people-to-people exchanges between Bruneian women and women from the international community in the Sultanate and has been an active player in organizing cultural and fundraising events for charitable causes both locally and abroad.
